Gourds may have been the first bowls used by humans. Their strength and lightness have made them vital water-carriers for millennia in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. The Calaba Bowl is cut from naturally cultivated gourds and brought to our studios to be layered with natural cinnabar and black lacquer. The end result is a delicate and sophisticated presentation vessel.
