Ribbed Bowl, Black Bronze

Natural lacquer is the fabled material that lies between East and West, Kyoto and Paris. Liquid, dark, smokey, polished and pigmented with the sort of natural ingredients that might have been brought to Europe by Marco Polo: cinnabar, cashew oils, pounded lapis, gold powder. Lacquer is a monastic material demanding patience and deliberation.
The soft curves of the Octo Vase are graced with the signature black bronze finish developed in our own workshops. Layers of black lacquer are overlaid with bronze and rubbed back in a subtle aqueous pattern.
